A doctor has been suspended from practising after an investigation was launched into the deaths of four patients.
The inquiry is focused on the Eagle Medical Practice on Alderney in the Channel Islands and is being led by Guernsey Police.
On Thursday they confirmed 10 officers used a search warrant to raid a surgery run by Dr Rory Lyons and a private residential address.
A police spokesman said nobody has been arrested.
"The circumstances which led to this action are that concerns were raised with the Health and Social Services Department (HSSD) following the death of a patient who had been under the care of the Eagle Medical Practice," he said.
"HSSD carried out a preliminary internal investigation, where three further deaths of concern were identified, before referring the matter to Guernsey police. Based on this information we have launched an investigation."
The spokesman added: "This decisive early action was necessary in order to ensure the protection of the public, which is always our primary concern."
The HSSD said the General Medical Council (GMC) was aware of the developments.
HSSD chief officer Carol Tozer said: "Following our initial investigation, a doctor was excluded from treating patients at the Mignot Memorial Hospital and the General Medical Council was informed.
"The GMC was also notified that the matter is now the subject of a police investigation.
"The GMC has confirmed that the doctor's practice is already restricted and he is being investigated."
The Eagle Medical Practice on Ollivier Street in St Anne's serves around 500 patients on Guernsey, which has a total population of approximately 1,900.
A patient who did not wish to be named told Sky News: "I'm surprised and shocked by all this, I have been treated by Dr Lyons for years as have my relatives.
"He is by far and away one of the most skilled GPs I have experience of."
