Farage MP Bid: Westminster's Worst Kept Secret

It's Westminster's worst kept secret: Nigel Farage hopes to stand for Parliament in South Thanet.
UKIP was keen to make the official announcement in a few weeks' time, but a local official has let the cat out of the bag.
Rozanne Duncan, the South Thanet party secretary, told the Financial Times: "It is the worst kept secret in town. We now have two names on the list and one of them is Mr Farage.
"Whether he will get selected or not is another matter… although I'd be surprised if he didn't."
A UKIP spokeswoman refused to confirm the reports, saying: "Nothing has been confirmed, the list hasn't been drawn up yet.
"It is one of our most winnable seats. The process will take longer because it's a popular seat and there will be a lot of candidates."
Mr Farage has previously confirmed he intends to stand to be an MP in 2015, and the South Thanet selection doesn't come as a surprise.
Recent polling of marginal seats by the Conservative donor Lord Ashcroft indicate that UKIP has a chance of winning two parliamentary seats: Thurrock and South Thanet. The party already has a candidate in Thurrock - Tim Aker.
There are other reasons that South Thanet is the perfect pick for Mr Farage.
The UKIP leader has told me previously that he wants to stand somewhere where he has a local connection and somewhere that is a seaside town (where the party traditionally does well.)
South Thanet is in Kent, where he was born, and it is a coastal constituency encompassing holiday spots Broadstairs and Ramsgate.
He also does not have the challenge of an incumbent MP.
The current South Thanet MP is the Conservative Laura Sandys, who is standing down at the next election.
UKIP will be irritated that the timetable for the long-awaited announcement has been scuppered by local activists.
However, if Mr Farage is serious about returning to Westminster, South Thanet may be his only realistic chance.
